In May, the Morgan Hill Historical Society and the Santa Clara County Preservation Alliance honored Robin Shepherd and Nils Myers with the Distinguished Preservation Service Award for preserving Morgan Hill history through their high-impact documentary and oral history films.
At the event, the two filmmakers were introduced by Kathy Sullivan who has played an instrumental role in the Morgan Hill Historical Society’s film program for the past decade. Awards were presented by Tere Johnson of the Santa Clara County Historic Heritage Commission. Morgan Hill Mayor, Mark Turner, served as event emcee. Other dignitaries included California Senator Dave Cortese, County Supervisor Cindy Chavez, and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan.
We are grateful to event co-hosts, History San Jose and the Santa Clara County Preservation Action Council for their dedication to preserving history.
Shepherd and Myers collaborate on two popular film series for the Historical Society: Stories from the Past, now in its tenth year; and History Makers, now in its third year.
According to Sullivan, “Their work to capture local and regional stories of historical significance has lasting value for present and future generations in Santa Clara County. These films help people feel a deeper sense of connection with the place they call home.”
