Discover the Power of Community Through History

Every town, no matter how large or small, is shaped by the stories of the people who have lived there, the events that have taken place, and the traditions that have been passed down through generations. Our shared past of Morgan Hill is a treasure trove of lessons, memories, and inspiration. Without care and commitment, it is all too easy to lose the connection to our city’s past. This is why the Morgan Hill Historical Society exists—and why now, more than ever, we need your involvement.

History Matters

In today’s hurried culture many say, "Why should I care about history? Isn’t it the past?” But history is more than a list of dates and names—it's the living narrative of our community. History explains how Morgan Hill came to be, why our neighborhoods look the way they do, and how our shared celebrations developed.

Preserving Morgan Hill’s history offers a sense of identity and continuity. It allows us to celebrate diversity, appreciate our differences, and unite around common values. Understanding our past empowers us to make thoughtful decisions for the future. When we actively engage in protecting our heritage, we strengthen the very fabric of our community.

The Vital Role of the Morgan Hill Historical Society

The Morgan  Hill Historical Society is not simply a club for history buffs. It is a dynamic, welcoming organization devoted to safeguarding the artifacts, archives, buildings, and memories that define Morgan Hill and our region.

The historical society runs our local museum, curates exhibits, organizes walking tours, and hosts events to bring our history to life.

Making a Difference: Recent Successes

In the past year alone, thanks to our members and community partners, the Society has:

·    Continued to create, produce and share the “Stories from the Past” and “History Makers” documentary films  highlighting and celebrating those who have helped to shape Morgan Hill. All films are now viewable on our website at: morganhillhistoricalsociety.org/stories-from-the-past and morganhillhistoricalsociety.org/history-makers

·    Offered engaging exhibits at Villa Mira Monte and Museum (open on Saturdays 10-1) with docent let tours.

·    Leads Historic Downtown Walking Tours that take place the second Saturday of each month.

·    Celebrated Día De Los Muertos Altars by offering “ofrendas” (alters) to the community.

·    Conducted Living History Field Trips for our local schools’ third grade students.

·    Visit our website to learn more: morganhillhistoricalsociety.org

Why Does Membership Matter?

The heartbeat of the Historical Society is its members. Membership fees and donations support the Society’s many programs and activities. When you become a member, you are joining a community of neighbors dedicated to the stewardship of Morgan Hill’s legacy and a builder of its future. And membership fees start at $35/year!

Looking Ahead: Your Role in the Future

As we look to the future, there is so much more to do. New generations are growing up in a world where the pace of change is ever-quickening, and the risk of losing touch with our roots is real. By becoming a member of the Historical Society, you will  help bridge the gap between past and future. You help ensure that our children and grandchildren will still be able to walk past and identify historic buildings, learn the names behind street signs, and understand the  history that shaped their community.

Let’s work together to preserve our past and enrich our future. Join the Morgan Hill Historical Society today—because history matters!
