On May 17th, the Santa Clara County Preservation Alliance held a special event at History San Jose Park to honor 13 people who have made significant contributions to historic preservation in our region.
Among those honored was US Army Veteran Eddie Bowers of Morgan Hill. Bowers was nominated by the Morgan Hill Historical Society for his more than 30 years of leadership in recognition and remembrance of Veterans.
Bowers inspired the installation of a permanent monument to local veterans on the median that divides Monterey Road in the downtown corridor, and the tradition of annual community gatherings there, on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, since 1991.
The event was emceed by Morgan Hill Mayor, Mark Turner, and hosted by Tere Johnson, Chairman of the Santa Clara County Historical Heritage Commission and a resident of Morgan Hill. The Historical Society’s Past President, Kathy Sullivan, was on hand to introduce Eddie Bowers from the podium.
Bowers will be among the local Veterans featured in a new History Makers film slated for release on Veterans Day, November 11th, 2024, at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse.
